Al Jazeera English yesterday posted an article hailing Pashtun folk band “Khymariyaan” for changing the Pashtun narrative through music. Al Jazeera English shared the article on social media with a couple of band pictures (Sparlay Rawail was in one of them). Many social media users appreciated the band’s work but some showed angered toward Sparlay Rawail. A few comments labeled him “Terrorist“.
This social media anger was because of his family’s involvement in far-left movements including PTM which was blacklisted by EU DisInfo Lab as an Indian funded organization.
His mother “Ismat Shahjahan” is a politician and member of Awami Workers’ Party, Women Democratic Front, and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement. A social media user claimed that She is the former side-role actress who worked in the British drama serial “Trafik”.
