PTA temporarily shuts down all social media sites including facebook and twitter



Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has temporarily shut down Social Media platforms in Pakistan. According to a report by national media, Social Media apps and websites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Tiktok has been closed for few hours.

The response came from the government organization to maintain Law and order within the county following the violent protest by the far-right political party Tahreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP). The protest has received a lot of appreciation as well as backlash on social media.

It is also reported that “Social media platforms will be opened till 4 PM, Friday“. It is not the first time when PTA has urgently taken such a decision without any prior notification. PTA has been involved in removing blasphemous content, porn sites, dating apps, and Pubg and TikTok in recent times.

The last time, when PTA had blocked social media sites was on 10 Muharram when the Internet and call service was blocked to ensure security for religious processions.
